Have you ever opened your browser just to find that it does not take you to the site that you set as a homepage. But rather you are staring at some weird site, search engine or porn. You say, "What the hell? How and when did this site became my homepage?". So you go to change your settings in the browser, change it then press the home page button. Voila!! You look back into the favourite site/search engine that you are comfortable with again. That was easy, you say. Then you close the browser and start again. You say, "What the hell?". I say, "Deja Vu".
No, it was not your fault. Your browser has been hijacked.
Hijacked? My browser is not an airplane to be hijacked. Well, thats what it is called buddy "Browser Hijacking".
Everytime you change the settings it will get changed back to the hijacked situation. Sometimes the options in the internet settings get disabled, so you cannot even change the settings.
What do I do know?
Well, you got to rescue your browser from the hijacking. And you will want some tools to do that. There are many of those floating around on the net. Mostly for free. Thankfully.
Not only are there free tools to rescue your browser, but also prevention tools which will help you prevent something like this happening in the future.
What do I recommend? Nothing
Nothing? Did you say nothing. Yup. Nothing. Tools are there doesn't mean you can't do it yourself. Does it? And you know what I do in case something like this or something not like this happens? I read.
Read? Do you say read? Who has the time to read when my browser has been hijacked.
Well, I say that is the perfect time to read about it, so you not only rescue your browser but along with that your ability to protect it and rescue it in case it happens again.
Do you suggest any links? Yeah. I sure would. Here you go buddy. Read them all. In case you find something that you feel should be mentioned here, please drop me the link in the comments or mail me at santosh.mishra@rediffmail.com
